Musically Found

Over the past two months I have grown to need more and more new music. I am not sure if it is because I have grown to detest having something that is something that I have know for all of my life. I need something new, fresh, unheard. The other music, although still wonderful in its own way, has been covered in mold from the isolated musical choices.

When I tell you the new music that I am listening to, you might call me a hypocrit or just misinformed of what the definition of “new” is. Here is a list of the newest additions to my collection, or at least to my computer.:
Let It Be - Beatles
Picaresque - Decemberists
The Crane Wife - Decemberists
Rage Against the Machines - Rage Against the Machines
Rolling Stones - Forty Licks
My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade
Modern Times - Bob Dylan
The Very Best of the Doors - The Doors
Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral

These were all recommended from someone I know and respect. It is a ragtag and random collection of new music to sort through, even though only the Decemberists and My Chemical Romance albums are recently released.

There is a new website that I have been added to, well in fact there are two new websites that I have been frequenting. The first is Last FM. It is a website that is much like Flixster, if you are familiar with that site. It is a plug-in for your iTunes that keeps track of what you listen to and matched friends upon what they are listening to. It will then have a scale of what how compatible you are with them based on what you have recently played . The second was recommended to me by a friend when I told them that I needed new music desperately. It is a website called Pandora, which was created by a group of people who did a lot of research and cataloging of music of every kind, subdividing it by genres and subgenres and influences. It is a sweet site and worthy of an hour or two of exploration. Go and type in three or four of your favorite artists of all time, and then hit the Quickmix button and within a hour of thumbs up and down of their picks you will start to discover a variety of bands, that you normally wouldn’t have listened to. I thank those two friends for sharing those websites and recommending them to me.
